The following are comments left in the guestbook of Paki Maui 408 over the last two-and-a-half years,
BEFORE THE RENOVATION:
We have had a wonderful stay here in room 408. The view is breathtaking, the room is comfortable and homey, and the staff is friendly. This has been the best vacation we have ever taken!
~ Carlos and Brooke, Venice, CaliforniaWe’ll remember lightening and thunder, the calm view of Molokai and sunsets. Recommend guide book “Maui Revealed” – very helpful. The Sunday crafts show at the community center near the Lahaina post office has some good bargains.
~ Stephen and Esther, Whittier, CaliforniaFirst time to Maui, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Great view, saw a lot of whales from this shore and our room. Don’t forget to relax! Leaving Hana, the Kaupo Road was also beautiful. Aloha!
~ Joe and Christine, South Range, WisconsinOur visit to Maui was wonderful! The accommodations were nice, the view from this condo spectacular, and the “things to do” fun. We biked down the volcano with Maui Downhill. It was a little too structured for our tastes, but still worth doing. The snorkeling on the Frogman was great. Six hours on a boat and spotting whales made this event worth the money spent. Thank you for the use of your condo. We loved it!
~ Maya and Dane, Dayton, Ohio,We had a wonderful, most excellent time. The water was fantastic – both for swimming and snorkeling. We enjoyed our ride on the Hana Coast and left the tape under the TV. We especially enjoyed the Seven Pools at the end, along with the waterfall hike. Seeing the sun rise while on Haleakala was great, but possibly my favorite spot was Iao Valley State Park. We got there very early and it was very peaceful. Maui is beautiful.
~ Eileen, Kevin, Kathleen, and Carolyn
Snorkeling in Molokini was a great experience. Royal Lahaina Luau was relaxing. Submarine was fascinating. Maui is a beautiful place to go on vacation. This hotel is nice and very convenient. I definitely recommend it to my friends in California. Thanks a lot.
~ The Garcia FamilyOur favorite part of our stay at Paki Maui was watching the whales from our room – fantastic! Absolutely loved Maui, its beaches, snorkeling and scenery! We’ll be back!
~ Graeme and WendyWe had a very good time watching the ocean and a beautiful sunset. Also the room has good sunlight and also privacy. Good staff service!
~Melten FamilyMaui No Ka Oi! We got “mauied” here 5 ½ years ago! Maui is absolutely our favorite vacation spot. Paki Maui fits our needs to a “T”. Beautiful lanai to enjoy sunsets and early morning coffee. We slept on the sofa bed with the ocean singing us to sleep. We hope all future visitors enjoy Maui as much as we do. Take the Road to Hana. Visit Haleakala. Go to the Old Lahaina Luau (it truly is the best).
Take a boat ride, see the turtles, the fish, the surrounding islands. Our favorite nights here were grilling Ahi and steak we bought from Safeway. Sharing sushi while watching the sunset. We will be back. Thanks 408! Mahalo and Aloha
~Vickie and Steve, Tucson, ArizonaWe got “mauied” here Tuesday on Kaanapali Beach at sunset. That was pretty awesome. We had the prettiest wedding ever. It’s our first time here. We loved everything. Everyone was very nice. Nobody is ever in a hurry. We did something different every day. The most awesome thing was the dinner cruise. We had a great time. Mahalo Paki Maui for the great stay. We will be back, hopefully for our one year anniversary. Mahalo and Aloha.
~Ray and Courtney, Kingsport, TennesseeAloha! Room 408 – spectacular view. Very happy. Switched from another room. Made the trip so very much more a Hawaiian Experience! Favorite Happy Hour hangout was the Hula Grill at The Whaler from 3 to 5 pm. Dave, Josh, and Kevin were great fun! The drive to Haleakala was awesome!
Words can’t describe! The best part of the trip was driving the jeep “topless” listening to our favorite tunes! Thank you for the wonderful memories Maui.
~Matt, Sarah, and Jennifer, Livermore, CaliforniaAloha! My daughter and I have really enjoyed Room 408 at Paki Maui and our beautiful view of the Pacific and the islands. We did the bicycle trek down from Haleakala – 38 miles from 10,023 feet elevation. Amazing! Snorkeled and dolphin watched off Lanai island with Pacific Whale Foundation cruise ship. A beautiful trip and coral reefs spectacular. Love old town Lahaina and all the shops and galleries. Maui is so different from Kauai and next stop is Kona on the island of Hawaii which should be totally unique too.
So glad to be able to see more of the islands than just Honolulu, Oahu. Each is so different. Hope anyone who reads this has as much fun here and in all of Hawaii as we have had.
~Julie, Farmington Hills, MichiganLike many of our predecessors, we also loved the view from 408 – loved to sleep in the living room and hear the sounds of the crashing surf – loved to dry off on the lanai, wrapped in towels after showering – and we loved how closely situated we were to Kapalua and Lahaina. None of us had snorkeled before this trip and I would say a big highlight was snorkeling at Molokini and actually feeding the fish at Kapalua. We used West Maui Dive Shop in Lahaina and they have good snorkel and boogie board rental rates and good advice!
~Norman, Joyce, Danielle, and ChrisAloha. The view was breathtaking, the people here are very gracious. We came to Maui to
get married and this place will definitely be part of our happily ever after! Thank you.
~Bride & Groom, Claudia and BobbyAloha. We had a wonderful time here in Maui. We came to get away and relax and this place was the perfect choice. The road to Hana was amazing. The fishing was awesome. Captain Fuzzy on the boat called “Ewa Lei Lei” made sure we caught enough to keep us happy the whole week. The snorkeling was great and of course the beach was great. If I had one word of advice to any visitors I would say to explore this beautiful island – there is much more than just the beach here! Mahalo. ~ Kealy and Ben, San Diego, California
Our family had a terrific time snorkeling, exploring and hiding on Maui. Top ten things we learned:
- Kids love the “blowhole” on the northwest side of the island. Challenging to find, but worth it!
- D.T. Fleming Beach Park and the Kapalua Bay beach were the best shoreline locations we found for snorkeling with young ones.
- The top of the volcano was gorgeous, but biking down didn’t look all that fun.
- Little Beach was gorgeous, but if you’re prudish like we are, the nudity may make you uncomfortable
- We loved Twin Falls on the road to Hana. Bring your swimsuit.
- We also loved the Bamboo Forest here.
- Bring food on the road to Hana
- Be sure to see the sea turtles. We saw them on the way back from Molokini.
- Stop at Paia Fish on the way back from Hana. Split an entrée – they are big enough for two.
- You can safely miss the Hyatt Luau. The food was just OK and most of the show was bland.
Have a great time!
~The Herrins, PennsylvaniaWe had a terrific time here, once we moved up from a lower floor. The view is awesome, the bed great, and furniture nice. We loved seeing the ocean right from the lanai. We enjoyed the Whaling Museum at Whaler’s Village. It’s free and you just need to buy something to get your parking ticket validated. We liked eating at Leilani’s and the Hula Grill. We snorkeled at the Sheraton Maui in Kaanapali. The free parking is right before the entrance to the Sheraton. The previous guests said they liked D.T. Fleming Beach Park near Kapalua and we were told it was only for super experienced divers. Make sure to spend the day to go up Haleakala. We went through the Haleakala Biking Company. It was inexpensive and you can go down at your own pace and don’t have to stay with a group. They also take you up. We drove up to the summit another day and it was COLD! Make sure to wear your warmest clothes or jacket. The volcano truly is a marvel. Iao Needle is worth the trip over also. The rainforest and mountains are breathtaking. They have really improved the area with the Heritage Gardens and other places.
Pack or do a drive-thru picnic there. We took the advice from the previous guest and Safeway is much more reasonable (get a card too). Buy other souvenirs (mac nut candy, guava and passion fruit jams, calendars for 89 cents) at Long’s Drugs next door. Most of all enjoy the beauty God created. He loves you as if you were the only one on earth to love. Get closer to God this vacation. ~ Rob, Michelle, Nic and Alisha, Santa Maria, California
My wife and I spent a week here. It was terrific. We never closed the windows the whole time. We used the ice trays to keep making ice and stored it in a big bowl to use in our cooler for day trips. There is a nice bar up the street in Napili. You cannot see it from the road. Go the the Napili Kai Beach Resort, walk through the complex and there you are. There is a beach we enjoy at Makena. It is the wedding beach just south of Big Beach. You will see a stone wall 7 feet tall along the road between two houses. That is the beach, small and private. When you snorkel out, go to the right, approximately 60 yards and you will see 4 – 6 sea turtles. The beaches in Hana and the Oemo Pools are worth seeing. Don’t hesitate to go around the whole island. The scenery is worth it. Enjoy! P.S. Check out Canoes Restaurant just as you enter Lahaina. Happy Hour prices on pupus are ½ off. Great prime rib. See Kennan for great service. The view is beautiful at sunset. ~ Rudy and Dorrie, Santa Cruz, California
We enjoyed our stay here at Paki Maui. The view is amazing and so relaxing. We highly recommend snorkeling at Molokini and the sunrise tour to Haleakala. It’s tough to get up early, but so worth it! The weather was wonderful – always warm and pleasant. Can’t wait to come back to retire! Best vacation ever. Thanks for such a great time here.
Aloha! Hope you enjoy your time in Room 408 as much as we did. Some of our favorite
places:
- Sugar Cane Train – informative and fun – gave us an overview of the area on our first day.
- Jodo Mission in Lahaina and Mantokji Buddhist Temple in Paia – both had beautiful Asian architecture. Enjoyed the tranquility of these “less busy” spots. Both have unique cemeteries.
- Maui Cave Adventures – a virtually unknown treasure of the island! Located just outside Hana, the cave was formed by lava 1000 years ago. Chuck (the owner) does a fabulous job explaining and highlighting the unique geology. There is a short tour as well as a longer adventure tour. The concierge downstairs can give you more information. It is absolutely amazing!
- Road to Hana – beautiful, with breathtaking scenery. People thought we were crazy for doing it on our own, but we’re comfortable with mountain driving and enjoyed being on our own time schedule. We were so glad to have a guided CD for the car (the concierge can hook you up with that too!)
- Iao Needle and Heritage Park – state park at Iao has lovely scenery and easy walking trails. We stopped at Heritage Park (just before the state park) and really enjoyed the variety of buildings and gardens representing the different cultures on the island.
- Kathy found that there were quite a few fish right here in the ocean outside the Paki Maui. Go out past the first set of rocks and look at the area around the second set, she advises. Also, you can see all sorts of sea life at the Maui Ocean Center which we really enjoyed.
Those are just a few thoughts we wanted to share, but we know that you will find the activities and places here that appeal most to you! Hope that you have a wonderful stay here on Maui. It was our first trip and we can’t wait to return. Blessings.
~ Christina, Oak Glen, California, Kathy, Orange, CaliforniaMaui is surely the Most magical spot to vacation anywhere! The combination of incredibly beautiful environments, the amazing stuff to do and the aloha spirit make for smiles all around! Try to plan
your activities so you aren’t driving too much. Try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Stay open with your heart!! Tips – it’s all good, but the best sunset bar is at the Seahouse restaurant in Napili Bay, surf school at Lahaina Harbor and don’t miss snorkeling. Iao Needle Park is a special place too. Whatever you do, let Maui’s magic into your heart and take it home with you. Paki Maui is great because it’s small, very friendly, and has the best ocean front. We enjoyed it much more here than many larger places we’ve stayed. Blessings to all. We are so grateful to be here!
~ Melodie & Erik, South Lake Tahoe, CaliforniaAloha! Our third and best trip to Maui! We did just about everything. We learned to surfboard. Call Ron @ Island Vibrations – Lahaina (808.250.4872) if you want to learn the right way. All three of us got up on our first wave!
Drove to Haleakala again. It is always worth the trip. You should leave here about 4 am. Then we went to Hana. A long day, but fun! The two best beaches are D.T. Fleming Beach Park and Honalua Bay. Both are a few miles north of here. Honolua is small. Quite the highlight of our trip was deep sea sport fishing!! If you want a great trip, book it with Jimmy Akana @ Absolute Sport Fishing (808.669.1449). Six of us went. We caught 15 tuna, one, we don’t know what, and one trophy Mahi Mahi. All together Jimmy said 350 – 400 pounds. It was a great day at sea! Well, back to reality. When we left Minnesota it was -13 degrees – yes negative! So we will pack up our sandals and get out our boots; put our shorts away and find our long underwear and think of Maui!
~The Hoffmans, Annandale, MinnesotaAloha! We spent 2 weeks here and we couldn’t help but love this place. Because of rainy weather, we missed the bike ride down Haleakala, but we were still able to ocean kayak. We saw 2 turtles and eagle rays while snorkeling with South Pacific Ocean Kayaks. The rainbows were beautiful. Don’t bother with the Road to Hana in rainy weather. We ended up helping someone stuck in the mud and missed out. But all was well!! We also went horseback riding at the Mendes Ranch – A+, #1!
The staff and horses were friendly and the views of waterfalls and oceanside were breathtaking! We definitely recommend going!
~The Moffitt Family, Orange, CaliforniaEnjoyed the stay and incredible view. We were able to see the whales from our balcony. This was my first trip to Maui, but my husband’s 5th. We are on our honeymoon and had the best time ever. We plan to return to unit 408 here in Maui with our children. Thanks so much for the use of your beautiful condo.
~Regan and Sheila, Seattle, WashingtonThis is our 2nd trip to the Paki Maui . . . and it was even better than the first! Tip # 1 – Bring the kids the first time and do it all. Tip #2 – Leave the kids at home the second time and simply “do” each other! Sleeping in the living room and listening to the ocean is incredible. The best place to eat – get
Ahi, Hosein sauce, and fresh pineapple. Grill to perfection and watch the sunset from your lanai. Life simply can’t get any better. We’ve been married for 22 years and we love to get “mauied”! We’ll be back next years.
~The Mays, Lowell, MichiganWe have enjoyed our stay here in Maui. It is our first time here. We will definitely return. We biked down the dormant volcano. We took a tour bus to Hana and the winery. Our last day we did snorkeling, kayaking and we went to a luau. We also loved this room’s great views – we saw two whales! ~ Aloha. Stuart and Jennifer
Aloha! The island of Paradise! It seems better each time we come here. This has been a great trip since this was the first time for my daughter snorkeling and whale watching. She did survive the road to Hana! This was an awesome room. Thank you Maui! Wowee!
~ The Wilson Family, Citrus Heights, CaliforniaThank you whales. You showed us super jumps several times. We could watch them from this couch. (I don’t know why, but they jumped always a.m.) Thank you birds. You awakened us every morning. The combination of birds singing and the sound of waves, is the extra symphony. Thank you mountain Haleakala. You gave us
the opportunity to feel the greatness of nature and excellence of wild creature. Thank you all, everything here. We all are fully vitalized and healed at the same time. May you have a super nice stay here!
~Ken and Utako, TokyoWe are in Hawaii for the first time. We are in Maui for three nights, then on to Kauai for eight days, and Oahu for two. We are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. If we ever make it back to Maui, we’ll spend two weeks right here at the Paki Maui in Room 408. It was great! We saw whales, the most beautiful sunsets, and more stars than I ever thought possible. It is truly gorgeous!
~ Mary Lou and Gary, Lockport, New YorkAloha! We have enjoyed our stay here in Room 408 immensely. The view is absolutely gorgeous. This is our first visit to Maui, but hopefully not the last. Some of the activities we have done are:
- The Sugar Cane Train – pretty views of the ocean and some historical information about the sugar industry in Lahaina.
- The Reef Dancer semi-sub – lots of fish and the show divers were entertaining.
- The Road to Hana – gorgeous scenery. . . scary curves!
- Haleakala sunrise and bike ride – the best thing to do by far. The sunrise was amazing and the bike ride was beautiful and really easy. Maui Downhill rocks! Ask for Randy and Juilo – the dynamic duo will have you cracking up the entire time J
- Route 30 to the blow-hole. The scenery is amazing. Hike down to the blow-hole – easy walk, but wear good walking shoes (it can be done in flip flops; however, I don’t recommend it – your feet get really dirty!)
- Royal Lahaina Luau – the food was delicious and the hula dancers were great.
We also really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and taking in the view. Mahalo. ~ Larry and Linda, Eva, Alabama and Melinda, San Diego, California
Aloha! What a great view of the ocean. We enjoyed ourselves, though short, here in this beautiful place.
May each one who lives here sense the presence of God through the beauty of His hand all around. Blessings to you.
~ Fred and Laurel, San Jose, California2nd trip to Maui – 1st with kids. We all got what we came for: relaxation, surf lessons, snorkeling, or warm weather. Great snorkeling behind the Sheraton at Kaanapali Beach. Go out 200 yards to see turtles and lots of fish – water very clear. Room and service are great here and the sunset views were a must every night. We look forward to returning here next year.
~Scott and Janet and kids, Livermore, CaliforniaFirst trip to Hawaii!! We enjoyed ourselves. Drove the road to Hana and photographed waterfalls and the Seven Pools. Paki Maui is most accommodating. Try the prime rib special at Moose McGillicuddy’s in Lahaina. Mahalo.
~The Sloans, Dwight, Kathy, & Austin, Riverside, CaliforniaAloha. First trip to Hawaii. Our daughter,
Julie, moved to Lahaina so we are visiting and vacationing. Best events – Trilogy Tour to Lanai and helicopter ride over Maui – worth the price. Also got over to the Big Island. Don’t miss driving through the lava or seeing the stars on top of Mauna Kea. Paki Maui is our last stop – we go home today. L Maui is so beautiful. Mahalo to Paki Maui. We were very comfortable and loved our view of the ocean. Nothing like that sound to sleep by. We’ll be back!
~ Madelyn and Bob, Williamstown, New JerseyAloha and Mahalo – Jim and Tami – (five hearts written across page) True Love. (I’m 33 – I can’t believe I just wrote that!) We came here on our
honeymoon. Started in Oahu and ended up here at Paki Maui. The view was great. The drive to Hana was awesome (got a flat tire.) Snorkeled on the beach. But more importantly – relaxed. You work all year and save up for this. And this was amazing! So, I have no advice – just wanted to say this was the best time away from home that I’ve ever had.
~ DavidI could fill up this book without a problem describing all that we have seen and done here on this island paradise. There was the blue pool on the road to Hana – an awe-inspiring waterfall that is both beautiful and frightening. Get a great guide or ask those who know the island. Go there and be prepared to have your life changed. See Haleakala for sure. We took a helicopter – which is definitely worth the time and money – to get an understanding of how the island came to be and where you are. Today we will drive there. I am excited still. Makena has beautiful beaches and good atmosphere (Big Beach). Iao Valley State Park is gorgeous and spiritual with high peaks that are the result of the erosion of volcanoes – cool . . . Snorkeling at Black Rock was about the best we found. Make sure to try new foods and new things while you are here.
Of all the beauty that surrounds you, however, the most beautiful of all are your friends and family. Make sure to spend time with them and share of yourself. After all, that’s why we are here in paradise. P.S. Check out our band! Kingpinsrock.biz
~ Ace and Ange, Reading, PennsylvaniaThis place is de-bomb! There’s an awesome view of the ocean and in the night the sounds of the waves put you to sleep. It was so relaxing. Although we only got to stay here for 3 days, I still had a great time. I would suggest this beautiful condo to anybody that’s staying in Maui. So far this visit to this island has been spectacular. 1st of all, our flight was nice and short, 2nd of all, my uncle rented a convertible, and 3rd of all we get to stay in this cozy, homey condo!
~SharanyaNice weather. Good view. Relaxing stay. Comfortable place to hunker down for a few days while seeing the New Year in. ~ Motoko and Chuck, Central Iowa
Aloha! My husband and I were married on Maui and this is our 3rd trip to the island . . . celebrating our 11th anniversary! We have had a wonderful time spending another 10 days in paradise:
Day 1 – Kona Coffee on the lanai. Walking along Kaanapali Beach with good shopping at Whaler’s Village. Must try the Honokowai Okazuya Deli across the road from Paki Maui. EXCELLENT take-out! Perfect for sunsets on the lanai.
Day 2 – Good investment . . . buy the book “Maui Revealed.” Drove to mile marker 25 on road to Hana and did all the hikes and sidetrips. Recommend Eddie bars and Carmelitas at Anthony’s in Paia.
Day 3 – Explored Front Street in Lahaina. Also, there is an excellent spot to watch surfers north of here, past Kapalua a couple of miles.
Day 4 – Our anniversary! Watched sunrise on Haleakala . . . beautiful! Breakfast at Charlie’s in Paia. Visited Maui Prince where we were married. Beautiful beach behind the resort perfect for watching the sunset over Molokini. Very romantic!
Day 5 – Swap meet (Saturday mornings) in Kahalui. Lots of local vendors. Excellent banana bread from Four Sisters Bakery.
Day 6 – Back on the road to Hana! Enjoyed local fruit from fruit stands along the way. Drove all along the backside. Beautiful rugged coastal views.
Day 7 – More beach time, more surf watching, more shopping. Good shopping at Shops of Wailea.
Day 8 – Drove around West Maui Mountains – beautiful! “Best banana bread on the planet” sold in a little village along this drive. However, we feel that the bread on Day 5 ranks first!
Day 9 – Walking along the beach, sunset from “our” beach in Makena!
Day 10 – Breakfast and whale watching from the lanai in 408.
Oh, by the way, hiked the Waihe’s Valley Trail. Beautiful views of the valley and waterfalls in the distance. Most enjoyed the relaxation, the sights and sounds of paradise. See you next year, Maui!
Aloha. This is our first time here in Maui. This is as close to paradise as you can get! The view is spectacular and the balcony is a wonderful place to sit and look at the stars. We had a wonderful time!
~Derek and Sonya, Columbia, Missouri
~ Sherri and Tony, Southern Maryland
