On your first morning in paradise, you will wake up to the lapping of waves in Napili Bay a few steps from your lanai, to the birds serenade, and the sweet scent of tropical flowers. Then you are faced with a major decision. Do you walk a few steps to the famous Gazebo Restaurant to savor their delicious Macadamia Nut Pancakes with coconut syrup for breakfast? Or sit by the pool and watch for whales (from December through April) with the cup of coffee compliments of the Gazebo? Or should you walk around the cove to snorkel with the turtles while they are just waking up? Or work up an appetite by playing tennis a short walk away in beautiful Kapalua?

Instead, you may choose to scramble a few eggs in your state of the art kitchen, eat on your lanai and enjoy the surfers or watch the mist dissipate over nearby Molokai. Your direct oceanfront ground floor unit A-103 is separated from the ocean by a semi-private manicured grass lawn, inviting you to kick off your shoes and take a dozen steps to the most gorgeous bay on Maui – Napili Bay.

Always popular, but never crowded, the romantic and stunning Napili Bay is loved by surfers and boogie boarders, swimmers and snorkelers, and of course those who want to just sun and enjoy the sea life, rocks and coral and the waves breaking against the sandy beach.

Your unit, A-103, is one of only a handful of walk-out, ground floor units from which you can see the entire bay, the deep, multi-shaded blue Pacific ocean, whales in season, and the incomparably beautiful island of Molokai. Your own Napili Shores property boasts two beautiful pools, a hot tub, and lovely tropical landscaping with the panorama of the Pacific as the constant backdrop.

As you walk to the right from your unit around the bay that brags about being “the honeymooner’s first choice,” you can enjoy the waving palm trees and vegetation of neighboring properties. My husband’s favorite walk is the path carved on the side of the cliff where, facing the water, you feel as if you are on your own private island in the middle of the Pacific.

If you walk to the left, you and your family will have the fun adventure of exploring the small swimming lagoons, sea life and coral reefs, while the waves break against the craggy rock coast. For the inquisitive, a few more minutes take you to “turtle cove” where not only do you see enormous head-bobbing turtles, but you can swim among these fascinating, but harmless, creatures, all in shallow, crystal-clear water where even the most novice swimmer with fins and mask can be spell-bound for hours.

Could we recommend a return to the Gazebo for one of their delicious lunches like the Southwestern Chicken Salad? Another waterfront dining option is the Sea House Restaurant, just a short walk around Napili Bay. After a quick nap, how about a short walk to Kapalua for some tennis or golf or a game of shuffleboard or giant checkers on the Napili Shores property? Or a drive to Lahaina Town for window shopping and souvenir hunting among some of the most well-appointed shops you will find anywhere. The excursions on Maui are endless.

We always try to return to the pool area in time for sunset when the Napili Shores community gathers to share the events of the day and enjoy Maui’s best sunset vistas. Then we face one of the biggest decisions of the day. Shall we barbeque our steaks on the grills provided around the pool, walk up the hill to the on-site Fish and Poi, stroll around Napili Bay to the charming Sea House Restaurant and enjoy Hawaiian entertainment during dinner, or drive to one of the many outstanding restaurants in the area?

Returning to our unit is a pleasure. We can turn on the plasma TV for the cable news and latest updates, check our email on the wireless system (bring your laptop!), enjoy beautiful Hawaiian music on the home entertainment system (bring your favorite CDs!), or edit the day’s pictures while sitting at the gorgeous granite peninsula.

Then right before bed, pop those suits in the one and only private washer and dryer at Napili Shores so you will be clean and fluff-dried for the next day’s adventures. Drift off to sleep to the sound of the waves. Pleasant dreams!
